Manufacturing, Millenials, and Robotics

By Elizabeth Bellaver

Autoline is a PBS show that discusses all things automotive. This week, the show is about “Manufacturing’s New Generation” – a really interesting look at manufacturing in the 21st century – how it’s changing, and how it has to change to attract younger workers.

From their web site: Though manufacturing has been changing the last 25 years many of the workers remained the same. Now as they prepare to retire, how do we get the millennials interested in 21st century factory work? On this week's Autoline, John McElroy explores that question with Karl Klimek from SquareOne, the SAE's Chris Ciuca and Tim Grewe from FIRST Robotics.

This show is both very interesting and very timely. The Label Printers continues to upgrade our manufacturing technology – both press and prepress – with newer, more automated equipment. At the same time, while we are very proud of the longevity of our manufacturing employees, we recognize this shift to the “new generation” that will represent our employee pool of the future.

We are also proud to sponsor a FIRST Robotics team – the Geneva [IL] High School Robovikes, who just recently competed in the Midwest and Buckeye Regionals. FIRST is a great program – we’re proud to be a part of it and to provide one of the team’s mentors, our Director of Research and Development, Joe Kane.
