# The Label Printers Is Now ISO 27001 Certified
By Kevin Crimmins | Dec 12, 2019
In business, clients and customers commonly entrust their partners with sensitive assets. As printers, our customers routinely rely on us to handle trademarked and copyrighted materials – their intellectual property assets. At times, we have labels and other packaging elements in our hands before those products have reached the market. We have always embraced this responsibility for protecting our customers’ valuable materials as if those assets were our own.
Now, we’re proud to announce that we’ve taken the step to become certified to [the ISO 27001 standard](about:blank) for information security management.
This certification demonstrates that we:
- Are serious about data protection,
- Respect the private information of our clients, and
- Know how to keep confidential information safe.
Whether it’s your new logo, the results of a months-long rebranding effort, or a dataset including your customers’ information that we will use to produce personalized labels for your products, you can be sure The Label Printers will handle your data with integrity and will rigorously protect the confidentiality of that information.
“ISO 27001 certification confirms a commitment we made a long time ago,” said The Label Printers President Lori Campbell. “We run an airtight operation in terms of access to information and how we store customer data, such as artwork and related documents. It’s gratifying that our team, systems, and procedures have been recognized for meeting the highest standards for information security management.”
Certification to the ISO 27001 standard takes on even greater meaning in the area of [brand protection](about:blank), where we do much of our work.
Our brand protection clients rely on us to implement systems that will help them authenticate their products and protect them from black market or gray market practices. This work necessarily involves our handling of information about their security protocols, all of which is highly sensitive and treated with the utmost secrecy. Our ISO 27001 certification tells our clients we are a partner they can trust with this type of mission critical information.
## What Is ISO 27001?
The ISO 27001 standard governs data in all its forms: written, digital, and even in the minds of employees. The standard specifies a framework for an information security management system (ISMS).
While most organizations apply data security measures to specific situations, an ISMS creates a unified set of policies and procedures, and ensures they are applied and enforced consistently.
ISO 27001 lays out [a six-step process](about:blank) for designing, implementing, and improving an information security management system:
1. Define a security policy.
2. Define the scope of the ISMS.
3. Conduct a risk assessment.
4. Manage identified risks.
5. Select control objectives and controls to be implemented.
6. Prepare a statement of applicability.
At The Label Printers, the policies in our ISMS range from who can and should have access to different types of data, to practices for handling data during use. Our policies address clean desktops, physical security parameters, special access controls to critical areas, IT asset access protocols, and more.
Security technology is a crucial aspect of ISO 27001. The certification shows we have controls in place to prevent unauthorized access to our systems and data – especially by malicious actors. We keep our software up-to-date and use the latest firewall, antivirus, and malware protection.
## We Take Data Security Further
Ask most printers about information security, and they’ll talk about protections directed at their own interests. We consciously extend the reach of the security protections that we deploy so they cover not only our interests, but those of our customers as well.
As our ISO 27001 certification demonstrates, we have implemented an information security management system that meets the highest standards of the international business community.
